Help above kitchen window

jillcdanielsNovember 11, 2013
My kitchen window is short. I was thinking I'd make a roman shade or something to go above it. Would I bring it to the ceiling and then come down a few inches into the window? Any other ideas for this space? Here are some pics of the space. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with your idea, but I would want to put Roman shades within the window, and hang art above it. There's no end of fun kitchen-suitable art available, this one took me about 30 seconds to find on http://fineartamerica.com/art/all/food+and+beverage/all -- and there are lots of other sites to look at.

Hmmm. If I did art, I'd skip the shade. I just thought the shade would make the window look taller.

yeah, if you do art, skip the shade.

you could also put a shelf over the window, and use the brackets to hold the curtain rod, or use the brackets to help disguise the mounting board of the roman.

It would be a faux roman shade. I have no reason to shade this window.

I think the roman shade is a great idea.

If I do a roman shade-would I start all the way at the ceiling, or under the crown molding? Soo hard to pick the right fabric...

That was a quick response! Yes, you could skip the shade; I live in a place with chilly (not terrible) winters and traditionally lousy heating. So I want every window covered in winter. The art would create a taller visual impression -- drawing the eye up -- in a more interesting way than a tall shade, I think. It's a beautifully elegant, simple space (congratulations), you could do anything you want by way of image up there, from the finest line drawing to something really over the top.

I would go a bit below the crown.

I live in Miami. This is a new impact window and it's super sealed!!! No direct sunlight. It would be cool to find an old vintage food poster from Italy... Although most of them are tall and not wide. The space is 53x27

Regarding shade color...you could pick the darkest shade in your backsplash tile. Fabulous kitchen!

Oooh, yes, Food poster from Italy. The top two are from fineartamerica, but the bottom two are from http://www.allposters.com/-st/Italian-Cuisine-Posters_c5999_.htm, which looks like a better source for this kind of thing. Again, I did a quick crawl through a couple of pages; there are probably many more choices. Night time here -- have fun with further discussion.
