Need help choosing an accent color for my dining room area. The living room and dining room are one large space. I would like to separate both spaces by using different color paints. My color for the living room is Behr Harvest Brown. Furniture in the dining room is Expresso. Have a large painting in the dining area and would like help in choosing a color that will compliment the space and the painting. (Dining area and picture of painting). Thank you

The blue of the sea in the painting would look good on the wall above the wainscoting.

I'd love to see some ideas from others.

As much as I like to differ at times Carolyn;) I agree with the blue!

I agree about the color of that sea...a deep charcoal/slate blue.

Definitely the ocean blue color - will look great with the gold you already have! Are you planning to lower the chandelier and center the table under it?

If blue is not your liking I could also see a moss green;)

Painting cannot be ignored. It is the doggy in the window, the gorilla in the mist, the elephant in the room. I like it alot.

I love the dark dramatic color, but to use such a dark one you'd definitely need a spotlight on the art...not a bad idea, whatever color you select.

I don’t think an accent wall is right for that space. I would bring in your brown over white. Hang your picture on the short wall.

I'll be the odd woman out.......I find there's enough blue in the painting so it will just blend into the wall instead of contrasting. I suggest choosing a more subtle colour from the painting like this rust which compliments the Harvest Brown you plan on having in the living room. I'm thinking you want to paint the whole room and not just have an accent wall in which case would look odd with the chair rail. P.S. that painting is beautiful!!

Thanks very much the suggestions. We wanted to paint both walls the same color. The chair molding is optional, we added it to create a different look. We like the blues suggestions, but now that it's going to be two walls, any other color ideas to tie in both spaces?

Agreeing with Margo's color suggestion, it complements the painting well.
