It is too small. Where you have your tape measure is where it should extend to either side and also under the chairs. The small carpet visually shrinks the zone - whereas you want it to feel generous... particularly with the contrast of light against dark.

Rug should be at least as wide as shown in the photo.

Do you think the color of the rug is right? Darker? Lighter?

I think the colour is right - if you make it darker it will start to bring down the rest of the room. Right now that is the only light thing you have in the room. If you have a rug that is slightly darker you could get away with it

(my advice is to take a black and white photo of the room and then you will see the tonal contrast much better. If everything blends, you need to add some light or some dark to create visual interest.)

I think it is much better. If long term you can consider getting a larger coffee table that would be great.

It does look small doesn't it next to the chairs. I just don't have a lot of space. Do you think it should be longer or wider or maybe just something completely different like a big ottoman? This coffee table was just left over from my apartment.

Hi Susie
I think you can work with the rug. It's light colour brightens and zones your seating area. I would get light coloured scatter/lumber cushions for the seating to link these items.

Hi Susie
Maybe try replacing the glass with something a little wider - it is giving off a "galley" vibe, and the aim is give a generous feel with your seating area. If it was just about 10cm wider (meaning not the long part of the glass) I think it would work. Cut out a piece of cardboard and place it on the existing coffee table to experiment to see the footprint will work.
