Is there a design rule that says you must have 2 nightstds in mtrbdrm

I am unmarried and have a very small master bedroom. All the pictures I view for adult bedrooms show 2 night tables. I do have the space, but wondered if there are alternative that would not be a design "no no".

There are no rules. The night stand's purpose is to hold things you might need during the night, or want to get out of the way before you go to sleep. It can also hold a reading lamp, the phone charger .. whatever.

If you don't share the bed, you don't need two nightstands for practical reasons, maybe for design reasons.

I have a nightstand. My SO used to use a drawer under the bed for his reading glasses, his current book, a box of tissues and his phone charger. We have wall-mounted lights. We changed bed bases and he now uses the shelf of a bookcase for the same items.

No! Not only is there no rule that says you must have two nightstands, there's nothing worse than when you do and they MATCH. Blech!

If it is a space issue how about a wall mounted lamp and a small floating shelf on either side?

i have only 1 nightstand. my bed is also up against a corner.
i think it works for me because it gives me more floor space.
i have been considering getting another stand, because other than the single drawer in my stand, i have a dresser and 2 bookshelves. i would like some more "closed" storage. i just haven't decided yet.

you don't HAVE to have 2 stands. why have furniture you don't use?

If you don't need it don't buy it! Use that money to upgrade something else you want.

I guess there are no fixed rules when it comes to design and decoration. We often do make our own rules when we decorate. The reason why you might see so many pics with two NS is because two is often seen as a balancing act for the eyes. Say, you have two NS but one lamp: nothing wrong with it, it's just gonna seem off balance, that's all. But if that doesn't bother your energy , hey let's just go with it!

you could have a small shelf instead and a pendant light ? put a small double in there - 4'6" and enjoy the space you will gain !

The best is to you make your own rules so long as you enjoy the look and the convinience.

Bed in corner means always get out of the right side of bed. Train set on floor. Gecko in large hurricane lamp.

What are these snarky comments ridiculing a single adult for wanting a bedroom designed for a single adult?

No just people telling you to have fun it is your personal space and don't worry too much about rules. Decorating is fun.

I'm the same as you. I only have one bed stand. But for balance I have a somewhat large (but still bedroom-y) floor lamp on the other side.
