I am planning to refinish my floors with a darker stain, the problem is I have white oak with a blonde stain and a cherry inlay that is dark what ideas can you share for making this project look good?

oh wow, i actually like those floors as-is.

that being said, cherry takes stain differently than oak.
did you want to preserve the shade difference?

Yes I would like to preserve the difference, I think the oak may be dated.

I concur that the floors look lovely in the pictures but up close and personal the finish may have yellowed and is not pleasing to the eye?
Sanding them down and refinishing will take care of the yellowing. Remember the darker the floor stain, the more scratches show but if you want to stain the oak, consider standing the whole floor (including the cherry) and then mask off the cherry area and only stain the oak and then top coat the entire floor.

I am concern about staining the cherry wood the same color as the oak; would the cherry stand out, or would the whole floor just blend together?

Again, I would mask off the cherry so that there is no stain applied to it, only the clear top coat unless of course you were planning on using a tinted top coat.

We were going to sand and restrain our oak strip flooring. It is too orange/yellow. Finally, we decided to rip out 600 square feet of existing finish on site oak and replace it with pre finished tiger-wood. Sad, but our friend will recycle the old floor by planing it down for wainscoting.
