I like stone best but it is really awesome when mixed with a little wood. I actually don't care for your Stone photo sample as it looks like fabricated stone and seems too homogenous in texture and color. See stone and wood mixed below:

No fake stone. Real wood is just too much maintenance for a lot of climates.

I live in a brick house, but I think I could go for real stone.

For me it's all about upkeep. I have seen some beautiful homes finished in cement fiberboard. If done well, looks good. Of course , I am a lover of stone, and I think the two go together.

In architecture school (Va. Tech for me) one of the tenents was to always think about something in terms of it's next larger context. A window in a wall, a wall in a house, a house on a street, that kind of thing.

So, I guess for me it my favorite material would be the one best fitting the next larger context for that house. My "favorite" siding for a Washington DC townhouse might be totally different then my "favorite" siding for a Wyoming lake house.

PS: And actually the term here should be "Exterior material", not "siding" as that term is normally thought of as a non masonry building skin.

Excellent point. I don't like field stone by the river, or round river rock by the sandstone cliffs.
