need advice on shower floor choice
November 26, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Is pebbles Carrara marble a good or bad choice for a shower floor? It's really cool looking but the salesperson warned that maintenance may be an issue.

I have marble in my shower and it's a nightmare. It may not have been sealed correctly. One of the people told me this on the houzz forum. It discolored and no longer shines. If cost wasn't an issue it would be gone. Have to live with it until I can justify a redo. I would look for another option that is easy care. Good luck.

Mega Builders
If you like it AND if it is not slippery when wet - you should be OK with this material choice.
All natural stone should be sealed when installed and resealed (especially in a shower) about once a year.
It would help if the water is soft (naturally or with a water-softener) and if harsh chemicals are not used for cleaning too often or carelessly.
Having said that, certainly porcelain tile (for example) will be a better choice, maintenance wise. Good luck!

That's really pretty, but I'm looking at pebble-sized for the floor and it looks like your floor is regular tile.

They're 2" hex tiles...I thought you were worried about discoloration / staining.
