Please help decorate my sitting room
November 30, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Moved in 6 months ago and my Dad hung 2 pictures before I bought the furniture. Sitting room is dark because although it backs to glass wall, the angled ceiling is dark wood with exposed beams. The lowest point is above the sofa...4 feet between top of sofa and ceiling. Purchased end table and side table for chaise, but won't arrive until January. Armour shown in corner will be pushed back 4 feet into a nook. Still need to buy lamp, but my big question... What do I put on wall above sofa? We live on the lake so nautical feel would be great. Should I hang on big round mirror, reminiscent of porthole? Or several round porthole mirrors? Or a rectangle or other shape? Please help! I thought a mirror would be good to bounce some light around, but tell me if I'm wrong. Thank you!

If you use a mirror, I always tell my client's to judge what it will reflect first. Otherwise, a single large picture would do fine. I am afraid the small ones there don't hold the same visual weight as the rest of the objects in the room. You can increase the visual weight with darker colors but whatever you put there does have to have a presence in its spot.
