Space above cabinets in kitchen.

Any ideas on what to do with the space between the top of my kitchen cabinets and the ceiling? I have woven baskets currently, but they do not go with my somewhat modern kitchen.

Uplighting? Good modern pottery? Cactus if you have enough light?

For modern, just leave empty, or add a unique conversation piece for a bit of whimsy;)

No, put the cactus in the sweets cupboard for sneaky 2 legged midnight marauders.

Margo, by conversation piece, do you mean a talking fish plaque?

For a modern look chose a color and make groupings with items in that color. Ie. blue and white dishes and/or matching pitcher and glass sets or coordinating books and vases

Don't know any books about vases, but there is a poem, "Ode to a Grecian urn".

We put trays and v. big fish shaped platters up there, plus really huge stock pots that take up too much cupboard space.

If you are more modern, and since most people's ceilings are white, you might consider doing a single grouping of an odd number of just white pieces. For example: White platter tilted against the wall, two non-matching serving size bowls, a pitcher, a vase. Choose the best visual area for this arrangement, and leave the rest open.

You can add uplighting that is hidden at the back of the cabinets and leave it at that.

How much does uplighting typically cost, is it difficult to install?

NOt difficult to install. You can get fluorescent or led bars and it is a matter of having them wired and then placed in the top and back of your cabinets. You could evens start by looking at lowes or Home Depot
