Please vote on best width for new rotated stairs...

We are rotating our stairs (they are short only 3 steps) and can not agree on the new width. These stairs separate the living room from the dining room. We are going to rotate the steps so the area flows better and is more open. Our options are to make the steps 50" wide and install new balusters in place of the floor to ceiling wood balusters or make the width of the steps 80" which would take the steps all the way to the wall and eliminate the balusters.

Personally I would elilmate the handrail and have the steps spanning the entire room, but make sure this doesn't impede furniture placement options.

I'd go for the larger steps and elimination of all the pony wall balusters. Will open the space dramatically.
