Half bath color problem!
December 11, 2013 in Design Dilemma
My half bath is way to gloomy for my liking but I need help choosing a color. It has A LOT of brown, tan, and beige so a bright color to make it look bigger would be great! This busy brown wallpaper has got to go.

I find that powder rooms look better in deep dark colors. It makes the walls recede. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-ca/paint-color/temspist
this isn't as dark as I would go in my home but it will work nicely with your cabinet.

Not a fan of busy paper in a small space. But it's a pretty pretty paper.

I like adding a wainscot around the room in a light color then a more lively color on the upper half of the wall above the wainscot.

The purple gray suggested by wendellar would look great with the cabinet and floor! Make sure you have great lighting over your vanity to help brighten the room.

I think a pale pink or beige would look pretty in that bathroom! They have renters wallpaper as well, that you can put up and take off with no damage. With that, you can explore with fun patterns and colors and take them down if you don't like it!

I agree the 1990s look of Faux painting look is over for now. What is floors and other things in a Room. A better pic of the bathrm would help.

Yes, that is definitely a dated faux finish. But, just like every industry, there are new finishes that are stunning that reflect current trends. The hardest part is finding an artist who knows how to do the more advanced finishes.
I would address both the walls AND the orange oak cabinets. Both can be painted with stunning results.

I would stain or paint the vanity a nice modern darker color. The wall color really depends on your style of decor. For me, I would wall paper behind the toilet, just enough to draw some interest. Then I would decide what paint color based upon the wallpaper selection. Wallpaper nowadays doesn't have to be busy. There are some really great prints out there for every style.... That's just me though!

the wall color should be lighter than the floor color. I'd paint the walls a cream shade, then add punches of color with accessories
