Placement of Lamp?
Sian SampeyDecember 14, 2013
Hi all!
This lamp has been bothering me for awhile, I can't get its placement quite right!
Do you think it needs to be taller (I could put something under it)?
Or maybe the lamp itself is too skinny & I should get a fatter & taller one?

(Please ignore the wall colour... that is changing)

It's too small. An arc lamp would work best for this application. Good luck!

Yes, the lamp looks like it's "pinned" in the corner but you'll need a high arc for your replacement lamp.

Arc lamp. or change the shade to a larger shade. That lamp definitely looks 'lost' behind that couch. Like the lamp iamjudy suggests! Also think..on a side note..the frame of that picture should match the wood blind color..and with new lamp will maybe look more balanced in that corner.

You have a lot of brown. I would move lamp to Side of sect. Then get a bigger 40" bold art piece and hang 7" above top of sofa. You might think of changing out panels to a color and a print. Like chevron. Add same to sofa.

I also like the post on getting a arc light. In stainless. Would work better. Ikea sells. At a good price. Look there for art.

Ok it's decided an arc lamp instead. I have been purposely avoiding them as all the ones I've seen hang quite low but if I could find a high arc I think I'd like that.
I HATE the blinds but they're in good condition & throughout the house & we are currently debating on whether we stay & extend or upsize & rent this one out so I'm more focused on getting key pieces at the moment. The lounge is our dream cinema room setting so I'm confident that I'm always going to need a piece to stand behind that awkward corner section - where my dog sleeps lol

Here's a lamp that's not the classic low hanging arc.

Here is another lamp that I like. It's the Mama lamp. The nice thing about it is that it's adjustable

Before you buy another lamp, it might be that the problem is that the lamp needs some company. Because of your furniture that corner becomes a strong focal point. Many times I will make a template of the open space behind the sofa and make a table top to fit tight in the space just below the top of the sofa back. Then I add a lamp a tall accessory or two. On the practical side it also eliminates a dirt catching void that is hard to clean. Here are a few examples of what I mean. Good luck whatever you decide.

Unlike my examples you would need to do an arrangement of accessories with the tallest point next to the window and visually leading down to the center and back of the sofa. It would be like starting in the corner of the walls in my example and arranging right to left.

Interesting Gant, you should do an idea book on different ways to fill such a space!
The lamp has a pair in the other lounge room so I might just pop it back in there & get one for this room (got the lamps for free anyway ha ha)
