What kind of wood was used to build the seat?

motherbear Since it is painted...a less expensive species...boards & plywood.

bepsf ...it could even be MDF - just specify "paint-grade" when working with your carpenter.

S.A.N Design Group, Inc. What I did here to cut down on cost was to build the interior storage area from white melamine. This saved the me time and money from not painting it. The exterior of the cabinet such as the front panels are solid wood poplar paint grade. The flip up door and left and right tops are from MDF. All in all its a mix of materials.

joelo Poplar would be my choice since it is painted. Harder than pine and sands, stains & paints well.

kch1860 can you give me an idea on what this would cost to build? I'm getting bids right now and want to know how much I'm being ripped off. :)
