Opinions needed- to paint or not to paint wood paneled staircase

I often wonder if our staircase (leading to a finished basement) would look better painted. I need some opinions as I know it is a big decision. If I painted it, should I use the trim color and just paint the paneling and leave the railings unpainted or paint all of it in trim color? Or should I paint the paneling the color of the walls and the railings the trim color? The rest of the house has been updated with a fresh soft white trim (photos attached so you can see) but previous owners left the stairs as is which has me wondering if it could look better painted?? The last photo shows the other set of stairs we are working on, which we removed the carpeting, added hardwood treads and painted risers. This has me wondering if I should go for the same look and paint the risers on these all wood steps? I would love to get some opinions on this!

From a quick glance, I would paint the shelving wall an accent color. The wood railing is beautiful and I would not paint it. You may find that by changing up the other wall that the railing and stairway are fine just the way they are.

I wouldn't touch a thing. The stairs and the banister is beautiful.

So, from what I understand you are saying, all the trim in the house is now white. Correct? Then, I would paint the stairs white for sure. They look out of place.

It looks like you started a black and white theme in the room. It would look beautiful to paint mostly white, with black accents.houzz=

I agree with Corinne Gail Interior Design that the wood railings are beautufl but in your space I would suggest that you paint the ballusters, rails, and newels that same color as the rest of the trim and leave the treads and walls they way they are now (see photo of staircase components).
