Need help with my kitchen island

I have white river granite countertops and would like to put rainforest green marble onto the base. Would this work?

Nice kitchen. I have a few bits of green marble in my home, relics from its conversion in 1975 when coloured marble was trendy (in England). It now looks horribly dated, and is so bold that it can't be ignored. I long for the time to come when our other projects are finished so I can start ripping it out! If you're looking to keep this kitchen for a long time I'd say avoid this and use something cheaper that can be more easily changed if you get tired of it, however if you're the type to change these things every few years anyway then go for it!

I think perhaps you should consider something other than marble (you are talking about the island base, correct ? )
It will fight the granite ( two different stones with a polished surface ).
You could compliment the granite counter top and make the island different by just painting the base ( if green is your choice, go for it ).
Just be sure to reference the color you choose I two others all spots in the room ( this could be something as simple as a metal light fixture shade and a dish towel !

have you considered the granite of yr counter tops on the 2 narrow sides of the island.
The other 2 sides finished the same as your kitchen cabinets.

Thank you so much for the advice. The problem with painting the base is that we've already scuffed up the existing paint (we've only been in the house a few months). I thought about beadboard, but after researching, everyone and their sister has it. I like to be a bit "outside"... Other thoughts?

I would use a faux finish instead if it were me. You could tire of the investment. You have a lovely kitchen, you need to focus on the area above the exhaust fan, and the cabinets... looks very bald.
