Room too big?
January 1, 2014 in Design Dilemma
We are beginning a plan to finish our basement. I would like to have a large family room 40 x 17. I would like an area with a large sectional and a big screen TV on one end and a table with chairs and a hospitality area. My husband thinks the room will be too big and have a warehouse feel. I think we can design it and decorate it in such a way that it will have a homey comfortable environment. What are your thoughts?

You are going to need that sq footage to be comfortable. They don' realize how fast it disappears when furniture goes in and you still need room to walk around it. I heard the same for a patio about the same size and wish it was still bigger.

I like open plan basements,,no rooms other than the bathroom. Once you bring the furniture in and have each defined area, it won't look or feel like a warehouse.
