What window coverings do you recommend for an 8' sliding glass door?

We need some privacy, particularly at night. I don't like the vertical blinds, but there don't seem to be many other options out there.

I like the idea of solar shades with draperies. You can keep the shades down for privacy, and yet still see out. The drapes soften the look, but solar shades can work on their own too.

Try the Skyline gliding panels from Hunter Douglas, they can fit any width, and come in a multitude of fabrics and colors, easy to care for, and are flat to the wall. Visit ww.hunterdouglas.com for pictures.
