Nashville Renovation/ Addition
Tarl LaRocco Designs
January 5, 2014 in Before & After
This 1,760 s.f. home was completely renovated inside and out, and expanded to 3,400 s.f. with a garage- all while maintaining the original scale/ character of the front facade with some (largely) cosmetic changes. Inside, the floor plan was opened up, yet certain original features (such as the fireplace) were kept. It was an enjoyable project to design, and Vintage South Development of Nashville did a great job constructing it.

Kudos for saving the integrity of the exterior architecture. And lovely inside, too. Love the island pendant.

Thank you! @megcblu, the original was built sometime in the 1920's.

Wonderful remodel! The new kitchen is so inviting and it belongs to the house. Love the fact you kept items original to the house (the fireplace is lovely) and kept the facade in keeping in style with the neighborhood. You must have happy appreciative neighbors! A beautiful well executed remodel!

As someone pointed out on Facebook; this is not the same house. The house next door went from brick to painted yellow and green and where is the tree?

The edge of the tree is there. Look at the chimney and carport. They look the same. I am with you on the house next door being different tho...

@cgbarn (and others)… Yes, the house next door is a different color in the two pictures- it was renovated/ repainted around the same time. I assure you it is the same house. If you need verification, examine the stone pattern in the two pictures- that is the original stone.

That is what I meant Tarl, the chimney is the same. No way it could be a different house. I think it is a great improvement. :)

Thanks handyman! I understand people's suspicion, with as much that is faked with Photoshop and all-

this helps us make a decision about the need to take off the white vinyl and replace for a more updated amazing home like you did!

Sorry, my bad on assuming it was not the same house. I guess with all the fakery going on, I am becoming jaded. The makeover looks great!

Where did the front walk from house to sidewalk go?

@natoscha, the floors are red oak with (I believe) a walnut stain. I can verify that if needed!

@bevdowler, the original sidewalk/ steps were in a bad state of disrepair- so the builder decided to remove and have a larger front yard.

Please excuse my ignorance here, does the new house have 2 roofs, because the one over the garage does not seem to meet the one over the front of the house?

Here is another picture at a little more of an angle, you can see a little better how they are joined. I don't have a direct picture of the attachment, but you can ascertain from the shadows and what you can see above/ below the porte cochere:
