Mixing it up
January 8, 2014 in Design Dilemma
We are turning one of our extra bedrooms into a bar with game table and TV, to play games, cards, video games, watch sports, etc. We want to display all of my husbands car show trophies/pictures and also all of his plaques, awards, shadow boxes, etc. from his law enforcement career, PLUS I am going to a bit of a dark swanky 60's bar look with vintage bar stools, lighting, etc.

My question is, do we do one wall with the car stuff, one wall with police stuff and the other with vintage bar stuff (beer mirrors, signs, etc.) on another, or do I mix it all up around the room?

I personally like the idea of mixing it up. I think that if you make one wall for each "element", it may start to look like a museum. What I think you're getting at is that feeling you get when you walk into a bar/restaurant where there's always something interesting around to look at on the walls, and that your eye wants to move around and see what's next. LOVE the dark swanky 60's bar idea - so much fun!

Perfect! Exactly what I was thinking. I want it to look like it is a room that has grown over time, not like we moved in and hung up all our stuff, with the walls full of our life. Thanks, for the thoughts.
