Need advice on Laundry room - does it need to match my new kitchen

tracyjmcJanuary 11, 2014
New kitchen will have matt white cupboards, corian worktop and grey/brown wood included to soften it, grey floor tiles. On a budget for Laundry Rm. Do I keep the room plain matt white, go for a colour or can I even use shaker, style cupboards even though kitchen is plain? V confused!!! & need to make a decision quickly - any dos/don'ts?

first, I'm wondering why you chose matte white cupboards in a kitchen. Won't they be hard to wipe down clean? I would at least go with a satin.
I have a color in my laundry room that is off my kitchen. Right now it's a pale sky blue but I will be painting it one of the colors from my kitchen once we buy new wall cabinets. You can use. If the laundry room is right off the kitchen like mine, you could stick with the same cabinet style you will use in the kitchen. I think you need to post a picture to help people know the color scheme, even if you only have samples and it's not completed yet.

My laundry room has different countertops, flooring, backsplash and wall color from my kitchen. I painted it a bright color with a fun tile backsplash, because I spend a lot of time in there and wanted something that would make me smile! The only thing that is the same as my kitchen is the cabinetry. My laundry is a separate room from my kitchen and is not visible from the kitchen. But I say do what you want unless it is very visible from the kitchen.

I would suggest that the kitchen should be a higher grade than the laundry room, if it is not the same. The laundry area is more utilitarian in function.

If the laundry room is very visible to the kitchen, I would suggest at least a couple of elements be the same, whether wall color, hardware, cabinet style. I would lean towards elements that are less expensive to change together at a later time.

Agreed, the laundry could be a 'lower' grade of cabinetry if budget is limited.

Nod to the style of your kitchen. You don't have to copy it slavishly.
