January 19, 2014 in Design Dilemma
I am looking for something to put in thus empty space next to my cabinet. Any suggestions? I was thinking two to three different size silver floor vases but I can't find any. I then was thinking maybe a statue...But I'm not so sure. HELP!!!

If you are talking about the space to the left of the tv cabinet....I don't think I would put anything there unless you use a large floor vase with some sticks coming up pretty tall. I see one of the vases I attached is on Amazon.com

I would put a statue, small enough to not get in the way, but colorful and rustic enough to add color, culture and character.

I like "Exciting Windows" idea. A statue may look good, but statues come in all styles. If there's a particular style you like we may be to help you find in "Products" or in searching the web.

I don't think it needs anything there. I like the "space". It's okay to have a blank area.

I agree with Darzy, negative space is a positive thing. Just because there’s room next to it doesn’t mean you should fill that spot. We tend to over decorate sometimes and then things become cluttered looking. You could use something on your coffee table though.:)

Hey Mark! You and Darzy are quite right, that sideboard needs to stand alone or too busy will result. You missed space travel on cookie jar, scroll back.

The cabinet is such a feature - I needs space. You can always hang tv on the wall and use the top of a cabinet to decorate. Small statue, stack of magazines etc would look there

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I'll add more photos of the space...It's rather big. I am also looking for ideas for my coffee table. The tv will remain on the cabinet and I will add two ghost lamps side by side

Any pics of the coffee table area? As mirrors can look sterile it is good to have real flowers in the room.

The cabinet came from Home Decorators. I will submit photos of my entire living room. Please keep in mind, I haven't placed my throw pillows on my sofa, but I have them. I'm waiting on my curtains and lamps to arrive.

More photos of my space. I'm ordering a painting I found, I'll get that soon. I have the pillows and throw for my sofa, I'm just waiting on my lamps and curtains. I still need a rug for under my coffee table and I still need help decorating my coffee table.

I would go with a tall lamp if you have a power point :) otherwise artificial palm tree would look nice

The art work and the lamps I'm putting on the sides of my television. I'm going for the "Glam Fashionista" look.

Maybe add an 8""-10" column. If you have open space between rooms sometimes a column can add a decorative breaker while still allowing light in all around the column . It could pull the room in together. You can also faux paint it and marbleize it.

Here's a dog statue that might look good there. Might need to paint it black though to make it REALLY look good

Not that you need extra seating but how about a "poof" (hate that name,) that can be used as foot rest or seating when needed? They come in a large selection of colors/patterns. Check etsy.com there are a ton of choose your fabric option that merchants will make for you. Or if you have a dog it would be a great place for a dog bed too. I agree about the negative space though...not sure you need anything there! Maybe wait until you get all of your other accessories and then revisit the dilemma!
