Can you hang a portrait painting next to a landscape one???

Hi there
I'm redecorating and I want to put two pictures above my sofa. They're quite large and I wondered if it would look nice having one portrait and one landscape one, or would it be better for both of them to be portrait, the same size and side by side?

If you're doing a grouping of smaller pictures/paintings then I think it's OK to mix. With two larger ones I would match the orientation.

I would not try that. The landscape orientation may be better alone over a sofa.
