how do you make the "hood". did you make it out of wood first? how is the stone staying on it - mortar?

I photographed the kitchen for my client, was not involved in the design or construction of the project. I believe the stone to be a stone veneer which is mortared into place, yes. The framing, I am not sure, most likely wood.

What did they support the veneer to get it to stay on. Is there a support on the bottom?
