What shutter and door color?

felixthebeagleJanuary 30, 2014
We just purchased this home and my husband and I do not know that color to paint the door and shutters. Any suggestions?

Navy blue would be nice as well as black you could do a red door with charcoal gray shutters

Take the shutters down and live with the new look for a month. If you still want shutters, fine. To me, they, combined with the windows and the lines of brick, make the front of the house almost appear to be plaid.

If you decide to keep the shutters, I would go with charcoal to pull out the roof color. Then do an Ivory door that blends into the windows. Simplifies the palette from 4 colors to 3.

Just to give you a perspective. By the way all the major paint company's have a program where you can upload your image and try different colors.

Too many shudders - I mean shutters- in the first place. They're masquerading the lovely brick arches on the first floor. The front door area isn't very wide, so I'm not sure I'd go with a very contrasting color.

more creative landscaping and pathway might be a good option, too. Nice house, congrats!

I love the charcoal and ivory idea! I also like the idea of removing the shutters for a while. Thank you all for the great suggestions!

Much better without the shutters, IMO!

Absolutely remove the bottom shutters,I don't mind the top ones, I'd go charcoal black for the top shutters, paint the door and all mouldings a cloud white (Benjamin Moore) . the look is then very classical . I would change the landscaping This one does nothing for such a beautiful house, it would be worth hiring a landscaping architect to get a plan made which you could do in stages if cost is an issue.

Love the look created by lucid ops showing no lower shutters. Give the house a mire distinguished look. Would paint upper shutters black.

The bubble bushes have to go. At least around the doorway. Some mixture of the 1001 Hostas would look good lining the entire walk (careful though these things can get massive) and some mid height flowering plants or bushes behind.

Personally, I love a great pop of color on the front door. Mine is a striking hot pink, which compliments the azaleas out front during the spring and summer while also making the entrance more inviting during winter months when everything looks and feels so cold! I'd do a pretty basic color for the shutters (like black or charcoal), remove the bottom ones and hit that door with a color that'll make you smile every time you walk up to it!

No shutters, as deco has demonstrated, they do not fit the windows.

The windows themselves will look beautiful unadorned.

Would you consider painting the door the cream trim, in a semi-gloss? Your house really needs no accent to make it stand alone.

I would leave the shutters off the bottom. Black shutters on top.
