Need advice about a bathroom countertop
January 31, 2014 in Design Dilemma
We're remodeling the master bath. I chose a beautiful solid, gray-brown silestone for the 8-foot counter top to go with the tile floor and mosaic backsplash. Then I learned that it all would come to about $2100 ! I am thinking that is toooo much for a bathroom countertop! What are alternatives? Possibly a large tile top in that gray-brown color. Is tile on countertops outdated? other ideas that are more reasonable than silestone???

There are granite options out there for less than Silestone. Shop around! Look for distributors.

Granite. Look for prefabricated pieces that's where you'll find your best prices and they have some very nice slabs. Used to be just black but they have a lot of choices now.

I feel your pain. Love that colour and have used it in my kitchen. How about a concrete stained grey/brown?

Often times countertops get expensive is because you are required to buy the whole slab - even if you only use a portion of it. Verify if this is the case and then look to use the whole slab. In a master bath one option could be to incorporate the slab onto a shower bench. This will help to distribute the cost.

Corian has a bad reputation but they are slightly less expensive than natural stones.
