You probably want to drill some extra holes somewhere for ventilation, though. Items charging can generate a fair amount of heat and that can cause problems with the lifespan of the product, charger, or batteries.

Great, inventive idea! Can you share directions on how you retrofit shoe storage slots for a charging station? Ex.: Did you remove the back of the piece? How do you affix the power strips in each slot so that when the charger is being unplugged, it doesn't dislodge the power strip causing the strip to fall through? If I were you, I'd work on a patented design for this! It's such a streamlined, functional looking "credenza" for an office, bedroom, or den that keeps the rats nest of cords from cluttering the walls and floors! Great job!!

The great thing about this cabinet is that the shoe compartments were already ventilated in the back with lots of holes -- so the wiring is all hidden in the back and the system stays pretty cool. Thanks for the positive feedback and I think I'll look into the ikeahackers site which I've never heard about. I'll include a close up of the inside and hopefully that will help if you want to make your own. There were really no modifications made to retrofit the cabinet for this purpose.

Very cool!! So easy!! The ones I saw on their website say they have legs only in front and you mount it to the wall. Is that how yours is? What is the name of this particular shoe rack at ikea that you used? Seriously--gotta patent this one!

Yes, it's wall mounted which allows for the narrow profile I'm sure.
