Living room layout
February 3, 2014 in Design Dilemma
What do you think about furnishing a living room with the sofa facing away from the entrance (and a console table behind it)? There's a fireplace at the far end of the room, and originally I thought we would put the couch roughly in the middle of the room to face it, then put our large, round coffee table between the fireplace and the couch (see attached drawing). I'd angle a pair of chairs on either side of the fireplace to face the table and couch (and create a nice conversation area). But I'm afraid that arrangement will act as a barrier to the room (it's right off the entry) and make it less inviting. Alternately, we could put the sofa on one side of the FP and the chairs on the other. However, that would partially block a large window seat on one side and the entrance to the dining room on the other. The room is not huge (sorry, no pics or dimensions), but not teeny either. Thanks for your comments.
