The cement board panels are a rain screen wall system - held off the moisture barrier/sheathing with vertical furring strips.

Is it a reverse board and batten? Is there a vertical/horizontal seal? on the reverse ? or is flashing necessary on the vertical?
Love the look, just want to ensure it will pass code in British Columbia, Canada?

Rain screen applications like this are used frequently here in BC without issue.
