Light colors makes rooms looks fresh but not big . Using light colors never changes the dimensions of the room. Dark colors hides the edges so the room will look bigger . Maybe dark cherry would be nice , it would look so chic with local and dramatic lighting. You may use mirrors to make the room look deeper too.

honeypoppet, great question! And what does she like? Princesses, Hello Kitty, Winx, Barney, etc. You'll be able to pull some color(s) from what she likes.

It is easier to choose a paint color to match and/or coordinate with something already in the room, often the bed cover. Paint can be made to match any color.
