Need help re gap between air tub and solid surface-caulk or not?
February 9, 2014
Hi, I'm near the end of a MB remodel. The bathtub is a Bain Ultra Meridian 50 air tub (thermomasseur). It was installed as an under mount with a solid surface quartz deck. I've attached photos. My question is this- since the bathtub is an air tub that can be quite forceful with wave action (looks like a rolling boil on a stove) and the solid surface has a gap, I'm thinking the water will go into the gap area when the tub is filled and on full force. Should I have the contractor caulk the gap so it doesn't present a problem? Any advice appreciated. Thanks! PS The contractor doesn't know about this bathtub and how forceful the wave action can be. Bathroom and gap in one sentence? I'd say caulk (transparent grey, tape off tub neatly!). Use a high quality one though, since your tub will probably vibrate a lot.
