Stone slabs are typically 3/4 or 1 1/4 thick - The edges are built up to make them appear thicker.

i have a slab that we got with a display cabinet piece that had a very elaborate bullnose (or built up edge) that also made it look very thick -- I was told that to duplicate it and put it all around our kitchen would be very costly. Do you know if there is a nice way to do that without incurring so much expense?
where do I learn how to do a nice edge that looks thick like this one. It does appear as thick at 2". but you say the slabs are all about 1" thick right?

Slabs vary in thickness, but a reputable stone fabricator should be able to give you a quote based on the material and edge fabrication. The rounded edge is pretty much standard and a "pre-fabricated" in stock item, so they're less, but the only way to have this look is to go custom.
