l-shape looks better. But which works better for your needs?

We have a large dining room and the kitchen will be used only for food preparation.
The kitchen is in a highly visible part of the house.

The freestanding island looks almost deformed with the countertop hanging so far over one side, especially for as small as it is. Do you have two different tops you put on them?

too small to be in the middle of the room or l-shaped. move it against the wall and only bring it out when you need it. put table in chairs in that roon or invest in a real island

Are you just trying to fill space? What do you need--more cabinet space or more counter space? Both seem too small and the L-shape looks pieced together. Find something longer.

The cart is used at almost every meal, and primarily for knife work. A real island with a butcher block would be ideal, but this kitchen cart is all thats in the budget. Mainly wanting to get opinions on which of these two configurations is more esthetically pleasing.

freestanding seems to make more sense...the other arrangement seems too cluttered

L shaped looks odd. I like floating island if you could get a longer and less deep top for it, it would look much better.
