Hi, thanks for asking about this railing. Yes, this railing is safe for children when installed by a professional glass company. They ensure the fasteners are suitable to lateral forces and glass thickness appropriate to its use. The gap between the glass panels is approximately 1.5" which is substantially less than the code requirement, which is 4" for openings in railings or guardrails. They allow 100% visual clarity, so if you have a view from your deck there is nothing obstructing your view. The only cons can be keeping it clean if you have a slobbering dog, and the cost is on the higher end of the spectrum of railing materials.

I see two benefits for this type guardrail: it is very invisible and will have minimal visual impact on the whole house elevation, by having a gap between deck and glass, rainwater can drain off without a problem. Since there is no top rail keeping panels straight, the craftsmanship has to be perfect.
