Side Staircase or Center Staircase
February 28, 2014 in Design Dilemma
We are designing a large new home and are debating between locating the stairs on the side of the house or in the more typical central location. We like the open feel of the stairs on the side and the potential for more light in the house with a large window on the side landing, but have found the design of the upstairs a bit more challenging as a result. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? Thank you in advance.

I prefer center...but for a different reason. Both of the circa 1900 houses I've owned would have been converted to condos had they been built with side stairs.
