Tiny new kitchen done - but can't decide on splash back

Hi, our tiny new galley kitchen is complete but i cant decide on tiles/splashback to go behind the cooker and wall that face the window. It is a very light room - but I need to maximise the light as it filters light into our dark dining area. Does it need some colour? I've attached some cushions so you can see the colours in the adjoining room...there is alot of wood, yellow, grey, white and plants> i've tried to contrast a very modern kitchen with some older items. (the cottage is over 100 years old). The forest picture is to try and give some depth on the end wall... (can I use gloss paint behind a hob? - that would be the speediest option i think - not very reflective for light - but i could easily repaint if i didnt like the colour...) I've also added a rather sad looking pot of brass/daffodils to try to see what colour might look in that area....Any help gratefully received!
