need help with my home office

Hi, I am a graphic/web designer, and i have just purchased a new home. I have a "parlor room" in my house, that i want to use as my home office. I found this incredible vintage sofa and desk at a garage sale here in Vegas, and now i need to start pulling it all together to create a space that is inspiring, and exciting to walk in to. The sofa and the desk are permanent fixtures. I love them. But i need some design advice on colors to compliment them. The sofa is in here because it is an amazing piece to me and i want it to be a focal point when people walk in through the front door. The front door is on the right of the office photo. so it will one of the first things people will see upon entering my house. The desk i have on that specific wall because the of the windows and the amount of light i would like to have in there, will not reflect on my monitor. I am flex on the office chair - its just what i have been using.
Graphic design comes very natural to me, however, interior design does not for some reason. Perhaps the scale of the project is hard for me to envision unless i have a visual. SO! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I'd move sofa about 6" down from desk. Place the floor lamp in the sofa corner away from the desk. On wall over sofa something sculptural and modern, maybe bicycle wheels-brown in tone to repeat carpet color. Dark brown desk chair + black desk lamp. Wood rectangular coffee table as in photo + 2 shaggy red or purple pillows.

I am sure you have a lot of interesting collections of things, maybe create an interesting "clip board" of paper items that inspire you, that can go on this wall - or put something dramatic on the wall - dramatic paint color; wall paper - if you are into graphics - maybe a motif of graphics for that wall - start a collection of letters - that you can hang on the wall. add some color on the sofa - or maybe an interesting throw rug that frames the sofa - something shaggy....or modern color block throw rug - have fun - and remember - Rome was not built in a day!

I understand your placement of the desk, but from an interior design perspective, it needs to be turned around. If that causes glare on your monitor, move it to the other end of the room. In any case, it should face the center, not the wall.

With the right fixtures and bulbs, you can get exactly the light you need wherever you put the desk.

HAHA! This is great input! I love it!!!! Ive already moved the couch over and relocated the floor lamp - and added some purple pillows that i happened to have. Not shaggy, but for now it will do. Thank you so much. I do agree, there was something "off" about having my desk facing the window. It was a sunlight glare issue. I will try it out and post a pic! Stay tuned!!!

I agree with turning the desk around so you sit between it and the wall. A rug in the room...laid out at an angle and lot of pillows on the couch would look nice. Vary the texture and type of pillows (velvet/fur, square/round). Also, the wall behind the couch is very large so a large statement piece of art would look good. You say you aren't a decorator, but so far you have picked a couple of furniture pieces with great character.
