Purchased Home: NEED Kitchen ideas/updates

Whitney WedemeierMarch 19, 2014
To all of you design experts, I need your help!

My fiancé and I just purchase our first home, and while it is doable it needs some updates.
I've attached images... One should know that I am desiring a cottage/tradition modern look. Love strong bold pieces, with the right combo of a natural flow.
I'd like to have an open concept with a massive rich looking island on a budget. Not a big fan of the cabinet color, but do understand it would be a ton of work to either paint white or stain to get a rich cherry look.

Any ideas or thoughts are welcome!

I love the Larkin curio/china cabinet. The same tiger oak is actually in that cabinet only darker then the oak on the cabinets. Where are you proposing to put the island?

Yes staining them will be ...not a lot of work...but time consuming. Less time consuming then painting them which is a 3 coat ordeal of paint and let dry for several days in between coats. I would suggest staining them though.
