Can this porch be built with the idea that the screened sections can be added easily at a later date? In other words, we want an open porch with columns but want the option to be able to change it to a screened-in porch without major reconstruction?

My guess is that there are probably options to have custom screens fitted later without too much disruption to the structure, but I haven't done so myself. You may want to chat with a couple screen companies or contractors to see if they have any insight for you.

Yes, I will do that. I like the open feel of a porch but if we find the mosquitoes are a problem, we may want to add screens in the future. I want to plan for that option.

You can absolutely build this porch with the idea to screen it in later. Thank you!

As a contractor I can tell you it is possible without any complications at all. Have your contractor to have a screen contractor to come out during the build to consult with him or her. Dependent on the way the columns are built the inside jambs can be built at the same time the columns are built and then stored away. When the windows come you will only need to remove the jambs replace them with the jambs that are already precut to fit the screens. This will give you a cleaner look without having to install brackets or 3/4 trim to support the screens. Good luck.
