Make it look more updated..HELP

March 25, 2014 in Design Dilemma
So we are buying this home... and the curb appeal is nothing but bland... I have no idea where to start on making it look more updated. Is there any program that perhaps can give me a visual of how it would look if perhaps I added like stacked stone brick or something to the left side of the house to make it look "prettier". Any suggestions would be appreciated...and more if it's visual! Thanks everyone!!

Cute house. I'd call a landscaper.

Shrubbery in front to help with the "just built" look. Area seems tropical so maybe large banana leaf plants at corner? The front with the patch of grass could be transformed into easy low maintenance plants, then you don't have to mow. Get rid of the light post and find something more mid-century and size appropriate to the yard. Put up a border planting between you and the neighbors - something that is compatible to your zone.

Also drive around your new 'hood and see what everyone else is doing. It's great for finding out what plants thrive and what do not.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the input! I'm beginning to see hope for it! I've see this around the neighborhood

The wraparound blocks on the corners of the house... But I'm not completely sold on it.

I like garden designs porch. Plus a bit of landscaping. Take your time so you don't rush in and then not be 100% happy

Roof appears charcoal. so I'd paint house a light gray, white trim + garage + add white shutters to the front area only (where a ? bedroom is?), beefier black lanterns and pumpkin door. Then I'd call the landscaper ;).

@tancalgal those are the colors I'm aiming for. A light gray and definitely a bold color for the door. I've thought about the shutters but I am not too sure of it. I'm hoping to do some wood faux painting on the garage door. Similar to this:

I would not faux paint the garage door, the garage door will be nicer in white, I think. Maybe faux paint the front door , but I think a bold color will be better on the front door.

I am not against faux painting, I faux painted a large bookcase once, in a faux pine and I really liked it. This company faux stained kitchen cabinets + a black glaze!

@tancalgal maybe I'll wait to paint first and see how I like it with the white garage door...? Thank you for the input.
