Grey house, grey hardscape??

Regina BerrymanMarch 26, 2014
I am trying to design a patio garden. My plan is to create a curved gravel path up to the larger bed with perennial beds adjacent to the path. Can I mix and match brick and stone or should I stay with the siding color of the house, grey??

If you mean brick red, I think red would be a nice contrast. Using gray would be a easy choice. Even a mix of blue red pavers would look nice.

Mix and match--it will be more interesting.

I have found that the most successful landscaping projects for me stay with the colors in nature. I like the pathway to blend in with the soil around it. The color comes from my flowers and other plants. According to the photo, you have a lovely wooded area with lots of shade. You plants options that offer color are innumerable. Mixing the color of the pavers would bring attention to the pathway. Most people want the focus to be on the garden. You could use some of the red, low growing Nandinas mixed with ferns and some impatience. Or, if you don't want to mess with planting every year, you could try some Turk's Cap. It gets tall - about 3' - so you may want it in the background somewhere.
