Should we add planters in front of these front windows?

loves2readMarch 30, 2014
We have second home in FL--1 story ranch built in 70s--with 3 fixed glass windows in the front.
We are considering adding more color to front by adding three planters w/flowers -- one in front of each fixed window...
We don't want to have beds--require too much maintenance since we are here only periodically.
They can't be too large to be in proportion to width of glass--

Would square or rectangular planters work?

We also want to add some dracaenas to the areas on either side of the windows to fill in the open areas...

No, I would not add planters in front of the windows at all. It doesn't mesh well with the style of this home, plus it blocks the window area. If you want to do planters, consider a planter on each side of the 3 windows in front of the stucco walls.

If you are looking for minimal maintenance consider something like this

You didn't specify your plant zone and Fl has a couple of zones. What is your planting zone? Here is a good website for plant materials for you to review: http://search.gardenweb.com/search/nph-ind.cgi?term=dracaenas+&searchfor=gw
