These floors are Douglas Fir, original from around 1900. We refinished them with "Special Walnut" stain and 3 coats oil based varathane. You can see the slightly different color wood in the lower right corner. This is where we had to replace the original planks. The colors will even out in about 2-5 years. I'm not sure I would recommend it for a new floor job as the wood is quite soft. Once we have renovated a building and refinished the floor like above, we simply re-coat it with varathane every few years.
