Door molding question

We are putting Victorian style door molding around doors and hall openings and was wondering if the top of the door molding should be the same height on all openings or if the molding over the doors could be lower than the hall openings without doors by 1/2 inch?

Molding over doors being a different height than your hallways is perfectly normal. It is often advantageous to show off your smaller design details. And it is also inherent in older homes. Take a look at a Victorian remodel we did that shows differing molding heights:
