Desperately seeking backsplash
Anne
April 7, 2014 in Design Dilemma
We're nearing the end of our kitchen reno. One of the first things I bought was backsplash tile because at the time we were thinking of just doing a cheap spruce up and sale. In the meantime Many things have changed including our decision to sell. We've made a commitment to make this our forever home.
Now that everything is almost done, I'm just not feeling the love for the backsplash.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The counter is Verde/Green butterfly granite. The island natural maple butcher block. The wall colour is BM Georgian Green (HC115). The cabinets will be shaker style in natural maple. We've got an arts & crafts FLW prairie style influenced kind of vibe.
Thanks again!

@feeny I noticed that all your examples but one show a much lighter back splash. Maybe that's what I need to look for? Thanks

I put the last two photos in to show you the effect of darker back splashes (the Craftsman kitchen has charcoal gray tiles--they only look lighter because of the under cabinet lighting). Either iight or dark can look great, just different effects. Personally, I prefer lighter because I feel that dark backsplashes can sometimes appear like a dark stripe around the room. But it is just that--a personal preference, not a rule.

Yes. I think this tile is both too busy and too dark now. I thought the granite would read more like a solid but it does not.
Hoping to get some colour/style suggestions. Thanks

white simple subway tile would work well with your black cabinet tops & butcherblock.

I guess it looks blacker in the photo but the granite is quite green. In any case dh will nix white anything.

It's hard to tell beyond the mess but the actual amount of backsplash is only about 15 feet. I'd appreciate thoughts on scale of tile as well. Thanks

I'm looking at cream coloured subway tile but I'm not sure what size I should get. 2X6? 3X6? something larger?

I love the top two left suggestions, feeny. The green one, especially. It's unusual and yet, seems timeless.

@Dee the colours seem similar to what i have but the larger format seems more appropriate. Would you say they are 2X6?
