I need unique ideas for the niches in my entry. My style is mountain contemporary.

Are they the same size? Sorry, I can't tell from the photos.

The one on the left is 40" and the one on the right is 59" with the powder room door in the middle

Some sort of very artsy cool statement mirror -- like this only vertical/rectangular.

And a large vertical painting. Something by Doug West?

Even though the spaces are different sizes, I would work towards a look of symmetry by using the kind of art in each space---just customize in terms of size. Get two prints or paintings and frame in slightly different sizes with the same framing and matting...

I agree with laura about using large vertical pictures. I don't think mirrors would look very good. You need something colorful on your calm, light-colored walls. Not garish, but colorful. Maybe, abstract. Eye-catching and fun. Could be large posters, if you pick out something nice...

Leave quite a bit of wall space around each picture---important to get the right scale---not too large, not too small---avoid looking "crammed into the space."

Only one picture in each space. Classy, not cluttered.

Frames need to be beefy because of the indented space. Maybe, black---to give visual weight.

Just ideas to get you thinking…

Happy Decorating!

LOL. I've heard of rustic modern, but mountain contemporary is a new one on me.

Tomato, tomatoe. It's the same. I've been looking at all of your suggestions for others and am impressed with your eye. Thanks for your suggestion and the visual looks great!!!

Do you think I should paint the walls an accent color or leave them as they are? My husband and I are bashing heads on this.

you could find a subtle wallpaper in your style that may work inside the niches. Maybe some sort of grasscloth? or something that's just woven type material or look. I wouldn't paint anything any differently than what's there though.

I do like the sticks in the pic above for both spaces really....then you could do something with lights to make it a really cool feature. Lighting does a lot for an interesting, artistic and textural effect.

Another idea is to do some sort of water feature..........long and slim.

I was going to put birch branches in both niches, but I couldn't figure out how to do the lighting. My Photoshop skills aren't quite good enough to do accent lights. But then I liked the idea of a console table for the entry--a live edge console seemed appropriate--and black and white art.

I would most definitely not paint the niches a different color.

I like groveraxle's suggestion. In the niche to the right, use a console with a lamp on it, mirror over it for last minute glances as you go out the door. The other niche has a heat/cooling register so I think either art on the wall or a tall vase that wouldn't impede the heating/cooling, or a pedestal with a sculpture/statue on it.

one more.........the branches in one niche and do live edge shelving in the other. I know they would be shallow, but maybe you could do them at varying heights in the niche and display small objects of art, or a collection of some sort.

I forgot to say, your home looks lovely from what I can see. :) good luck and have fun!

Thank you all. I do have accent lighting in the ceiling that is directed towards the niches. I'll post a picture when this project is done.

Really like it. Have you considered adding one more similar frame above - it would balance the height of the sticks on the left hand side...

Fantastic! How about moving the art up a bit, or, as suggested, find one more to put on the top.
