I wanted to give my generic white galley kitchen an upgrade and a little bit more personality with some color. But being a renter, I had to find some inexpensive temporary solutions. So to paint a blue feature wall without actually painting the wall, I first put up removable paintable wallpaper and then painted that a deep blue. That way, when I move out, I'll just have to remove the wallpaper to go back to the original white wall. Some other things I did include installing an easy DIY temporary backsplash using fabric and tempered glass to add a splash of blue above the stove, adding under cabinet lighting and I created some open shelving. All of these changes cost less than $250 and have made a huge difference - now really love my kitchen and actually like to spend time in it!
