Make table base taller

We are going to use some fabulous old sewing machine bases as table legs for our kitchen island bench, but they are about 15cm too short. Any ideas how we can make up the extra height?

How about a really thick top?

Or can you sandwich them by placing them on a slab of stone or wood and then adding a thick top as Darzy suggested?

A wood, stone or brick foundation that not only raises the height, but firmly secures them in place would be a good idea. You wouldn't want them to wobble or wiggle!!

I deleted the comment above. Here is a better option
That is almost 6". That will be difficult. You can add 3" box extension to the top side legs. At the bottom add a 4" platform under the side legs, Maybe can use angle braces to attach.
