My sister and I bought a house in a suburb about five miles south of Boston. The neighborhood has single-family homes with postage stamp back yards which are set back about 15-20 feet from the street. No one really has landscaping. Mostly just lawn. Some homes have shrubs right up at the house - some flowering, some evergreens. I want to do something less traditional, more modern, but within scale. Maybe use some ornamental grasses with stones rather than mulch. My sister is fully opposed and believes thinks we should respect the feel of the neighborhood. What should we do? Any pictures of possible solutions for non- traditional landscapes would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
