Is painting the room an option? It seems like if you did a wall color close to the maple bands in the vanity, it might cheer it up. White rugs would still work. For a valance, you could then choose a fun, modern pattern with a white background, black pattern with the maple and something like blue/green/rusty orange mixed in.

to make this pop out I would put a redish color on the wall leave the white carpets would make the room pop out you can also add a stripe of black on the wall with the red and the color of your cabinets and countertops would look really nice and get to pop out:)
