What do I do with this weirdly-shaped living room? PLEASE HELP

Here is the floorplan for the ~700 sqft apartment we will be renting in NYC. The living room is vaguely L-shaped, and the west-facing balcony has a generic urban view (a large avenue and a large building). After a week of fruitless brainstorming and botched layouts, I'd love your suggestions on how best to use the space.

FYI our style is vintage-modern (see Ideabook: Vintage Modern: What Does It Mean?) and more minimalist than cozy. So far I know we will have a sleeper sofa, coffee table, a couple chairs, and a dining table and/or desk workspace.

1) What do I do with that corner by the kitchen? My thoughts are it might be too dark for a desk or dining table -- we'd prefer to eat/work by the balcony.

2) Where might I place the television? I don't want my whole living room oriented around it.

3) Any other thoughts on how to make the most of the space?

Thank you all!!

I would turn the corner by he kitchen into your desk work space. You could then use the dining zone and living zone to break up the square.

I lived in a similar shaped apartment and wall mounted my tv on what would be the eastern wall in your place. If it was on the opposite wall or in a corner your eye would be automatically drawn to it as you walk down the passage. This way, for all your guests know, the furniture could just as easily be oriented around a painting.
This pic is a big too busy and distracting but its a cool idea to hanging paintings next to the tv to detract from it.

Thanks ambersarris! All, do you think having the TV across from the balcony will pose a viewing issue due to light etc.?

Rectangular dining table running parallel to the slider and then your living area will have the view.

Here' a possible layout. It makes a a nice work/dining space by the balcony and makes good use of the space next to the kitchen.
